Entry Requirements

Middlesex University Dubai's admissions policies are based on the principle of wider participation - MDX believes that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue a University degree. Middlesex does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, or national or ethnic origin in admitting students to its programmes.

All students who are interested in a programme of study at Middlesex University are required to meet our academic requirements and English language requirements.

Entry Requirements for International Foundation Programme

Academic Requirements - IFP

We accept students with a diverse range of entry qualifications and from varying backgrounds. The following qualifications are normally considered for admission into the International Foundation Programme:

  • British national curriculum (GCSE): 3 subjects at AS-Levels with grades "C" or above along with at least 5 subjects at O-Levels

  • UAE national General Secondary School Certificate: minimum grade of 60% overall

  • American High School: Successful completion of the high school diploma with overall grade "C" or equivalent

  • Completion of GED (General Educational Development) Test with aggregate score of 2250

  • Pakistani national curriculum: completion of FSC/HSC with minimum grade of "Pass" or equivalent

  • Iranian secondary school: completion of High School Diploma with minimum grade of 12

  • Nigerian Senior School Leaving Certificate: minimum overall grade of "C6"

  • National curriculum of the countries of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan: completion of High School Certificate (Attestat). Students will need to additionally complete the GED test (see above)

  • West African GCE: completion of A-Levels with minimum average grades of "C6". Students need to print out the official results from the WAEC website at www.waecdirect.org

English Language Requirements - IFP

All programmes at Middlesex University Dubai are taught in English and applicants with previous education outside of English-speaking countries (such as the UK, the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand), must demonstrate English language proficiency as follows:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
(Academic exam required– not the general exam)

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Computer-based

Internet-based

Paper-based

Overall: 5.5

Other English language qualifications accepted are:

  • O’Level English Grade C or higher
  • West African GCE – Grade “C6” or above in English

Alternatively, UAE residents may take a university placement test to determine their competency in English to join the Foundation Programme, but must complete the required English language qualification before being able to progress onto an undergraduate programme. Alternatively, the institutional paper-based TOEFL exam is doffered on campus at Middlesex University Dubai and is scheduled regularly based on demand.

Entry Requirements for Undergraduate Programmes

Academic Requirements - Undergraduate
We accept students with a diverse range of entry qualifications and from varying backgrounds. The following qualifications are normally considered for admission into undergraduate programmes:

  • Successful completion of the Middlesex University International Foundation Programme (equivalent programmes from other Universities / Colleges / Institutes will be considered).

  • British national curriculum (GCSE): 3 subjects at A-Levels with grades "C" or above along with at least 5 subjects at O-Levels

  • Indian secondary school certificates issued by the CBSE/ISC boards may be considered: minimum grade of 55% overall

  • International Baccalaureate: completion of IB diploma with 24 points overall

  • Pakistani national curriculum: completion of Year 1 at a recognized post-secondary institution (university/college). Candidates that have successfully completed FSC/HSC are admitted to the "International Foundation Programme"

  • Iranian Pre-University Certificate: minimum overall grade of 12. Students completing the High School Diploma are admitted to the "International Foundation Programme"

  • Nigerian Senior School Leaving Certificate: Candidates are admitted to the "International Foundation Programme"

  • National curriculum of the countries of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan: Candidates are admitted to the "International Foundation Programme"

  • West African GCE: Candidates are admitted to the "International Foundation Programme"

Additionally, students with the following qualifications may be considered as having met the English language requirements:

  • British national curriculum (GCSE): grade "C" or higher in English at O-Level/ AS-Level/ A-level

  • International Baccalaureate: English A1 or A2 (Standard or Higher Level) - minimum grade 4; English B (Higher Level) - minimum grade 4; English B (Standard Level) - minimum grade 5.

  • Indian secondary school certificates issued by the CBSE/ISC boards: minimum grade of 70% in English

  • West African / Nigerian Curriculum: WAEC/WASSCE/SSSCE English - minimum grade "C6"

Entry Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes

Academic Requirements - Postgraduate
We accept students with a diverse range of entry qualifications and from varying backgrounds. Specific academic and work experience requirements exist for each of our postgraduates programmes as shown in the table below:

Name of Programme

Academic and Work Experience Requirements

MBA (Master of Business Administration)

Normally a second class UK honours degree or above, or an equivalent qualification and a minimum of 3 years professional full-time work experience. Candidates may be eligible without an honours degree if they can demonstrate a significantly successful managerial experience**.

MA Human Resource Management

Normally a second class UK honours degree or above, or an overseas equivalent qualification. Applicants without a degree who have practical experience in personnel work will also be considered, but you will need to demonstrate your ability on the basis on courses already attended, references supplied, a 2,000-word essay and an interview.

MA Marketing Communications

Normally a second class UK honours degree or above, or overseas equivalent qualification. Applicants without a degree who have minimum 3 years managerial experience in sales or marketing will also be considered.

MA Education

Normally a second class UK honours degree or above, or overseas equivalent qualification. Experience in teaching or other educational professions is required.

MSc Applied Psychology

We welcome applications from graduates with a good honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate subject. We also consider candidates with other relevant qualifications and individuals with a minimum of three years' work experience.

MSc Computer Network Management

A second class honours degree (UK) or an equivalent overseas qualification in computer science or networks, or in a field that provided significant exposure to IT, for example, management, business, mathematics, science or engineering. We also accept applicants with degrees in other fields who can demonstrate relevant industrial experience combined with extensive IT background.

** Managerial experience implies managerial responsibility for people and/or functions and/or technical expertise, e.g. accountancy.
