It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Middlesex University Dubai. Celebrating our fifth year as a University Campus in Dubai, we are very proud of our outstanding record – with over 1300 students representing 72 nationalities, and more than 700 graduates already. We are especially proud of our British history and tradition, and we use that experience to add value to your education and career here in Dubai, and much beyond. We are also especially proud to be London’s first and only university campus in the UAE.

Middlesex University Dubai is the first overseas campus of the internationally renowned Middlesex University in London, which has a significant population of international students of about 6000 studying alongside 20,000 Londoners and other UK citizens. Our Dubai campus is an integral part of Middlesex University and like our London campuses, is subject to the same rigorous external and internal quality assurance procedures.

Academic programmes in Dubai have the same validation and monitoring systems as in London, with the same examinations taken simultaneously in both cities. The Honours and Masters degrees awarded to Dubai campus students are therefore identical to those achieved by students at the London campuses, and students can transfer to and from London at any time they wish.

The UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education's (QAA) has given its top-most rating to Middlesex University in 2009. QAA identified as ‘good practice’ the meticulous attention given to the establishment, development and integration of the University’s Dubai campus. The University was praised for assuring that learning opportunities in Dubai are comparable to those available to students in London. The campus is also licensed by the Dubai government’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). Furthermore, the University Quality Assurance International Board (UQAIB) at KHDA reviews all programmes on offer in Dubai to ensure that the quality of programmes taught in Dubai are equivalent to those at the home campus in London.

In 2009, the university awarded HE Maryam Al Roomi, Minister of Social Affairs with the accolade of Honorary Doctor of the University in recognition of her dedication, commitment and excellence towards the social development of the UAE and the Arab World and her inspiring community leadership. This was the second Honorary Doctorate that the university has awarded in the UAE, and is the highest academic recognition. In 2008 the doctorate was presented to H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai World, for his outstanding contributions to Dubai.

Middlesex University has over the last few years received high recognition as a leading University in London on a number of key indicators as shown in UK national surveys. Professor Raed A. Awamleh
University Director

Biography

Professor Raed Awamleh joined Middlesex University in Dubai as University Director in April 2008. Previously, Professor Awamleh was the Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Wollongong in Dubai and the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Business at the University of Jordan.

Dr. Awamleh is a full professor in management and specialises in leadership and strategy. Raed has numerous international management publications in reputed journals, and has won a number of best papers award in international conferences. Dr. Awamleh has a wide corporate consulting and executive development experience across the Middle East in both private and public sectors. His industry experience also included being a lead assessor for prestigious excellence awards such as King Abdullah II Excellence Award, Dubai Excellence Award, and Ras Al Khaimah Excellence Award.

Dr. Awamleh holds a PhD in Management and Leadership from the University of Mississippi (USA), an MBA in Finance from Mercer University (USA), and a BBA from Yarmouk University (Jordan). In 2007, Dr. Awamleh completed the Oxford University Strategic Leadership Program at Oxford University, UK.
