The Middle East and the United Arab Emirates, in particular, have
shown spectacular economic growth in the last decade.
Multinational enterprises have grasped the potential of the region
and set up major operations in a number of key sectors and
industries. The decade has also seen the emergence of regional
companies and sovereign wealth funds on the world stage. Dubai
Ports World, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, ADNOC, Emirates
Airlines, Jumeriah Group of Hotels, Emaar, Nakheel, and Emirates
NBD Bank Group are just some of the organisations from the region
that are now playing major roles on the global business arena.
The business environment in the region offers great opportunities
as well as challenges. Multi national companies need to understand
and adapt their management practices to the business and
socio-cultural environment of the region in order to succeed.
Similarly, regional companies have to develop the management
skills required to go global. In order to manage their exponential
growth, organisations need to ensure that their management
practices are innovative and benchmarked against leading
international corporations.
