COURSE OVERVIEW

The BSc Honours Information Technology and Business Information Systems degree is suited to you if you are interested in IT and its application in business, particularly information systems. The course focuses on leading trends in IT, such as Internet and web technologies, and how these technologies can be used within a business environment - particularly new and interactive multimedia. Graduates of the BSc Honours Information Technology and Business Information Systems degree develop a core set of IT skills and abilities, complemented by a sound commercial awareness and understanding of business-oriented computing.

PROGRAMME CONTENT

The BSc Honours Information Technology and Business Information Systems programme combines both technical and information systems modules in a unique programme. The first year modules are focused on developing foundation skills for further study, which includes web design and multimedia in the second year, and contemporary media and interactive technologies in the final year. Students are able to select two options in their the third year best suited to their interests and career aspirations.

MODULES

This programme consists of nine core modules and three optional modules, as follows:

YEAR 1

  • Database management systems
  • Discovering interaction design
  • Fundamentals of multimedia and scripting
  • Introduction to business computing
YEAR 2

  • Object oriented analysis and design
  • Principles of human compute interaction
  • Principles of multimedia
  • ONE* option from the following: Database sytems: Design and online; Web development and scripting technologies
YEAR 3

  • New media
  • Novel interactive technologies
  • *One option from the following: Computing Project Management; Software Development Project
  • *One option from the following: Strategic Management and Information Systems; Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence.

The BSc Honours Information Technology and Business Information Systems degree prepares graduates for a wide range of varied careers, including: multimedia developer; usability specialist; web designer; systems developer; database designer/ administrator; systems analyst; technical manager.
